Iomega Mini Max 1 TB Hard Disk

I first saw the Iomega Mini Max 1 TB Hard Disk in amazon and wanted to get it.

But my colleague could not bring it back for me and I changed my mind. Till I saw this at Sitex today ! I bought it immediately at SGD 139. 1 TB full of joy.

I wanted it as it is EXACTLY the same size as the Mac Mini that I have. I will let the pictures peak for themselves. One interesting thing is that as many as FOUR (4) different power cords are supplied in the box ! Amazing. They probably did one configuration for the whole world ! Another nice touch is the 2 different lengths of cable for Firewire 400. One long and one very short one to take into the fact that you will probably be stacking the hard disk below the Mac Mini and hence do not need a long cable. Very thoughtful. Except that the latest Mac Mini no longer has any Firewire 400 but is using Firewire 800 :)

2 Dollar Hard Disks Holder

Interesting how little things make me happy. I was thinking of where to store my hard disks. I have many older smaller capacity hard disks (e.g. 500GB, 320GB) that were HUGE (and not to mention EXPENSIVE) in its days. Now I have primarily 1TB hard disks in my PC so what do I do with these older ones ? Selling them is not an option as it cannot fetch a lot of money.

I primarily used them to do backup. I have one exclusively for Apple's Time Machine while the rest are used to back up my TV serials, my movies and most important of all, my MP3 collection (and FLAC and APE etc).

They have been lying around and I was thinking of how to store them. Was thinking of getting a 4 bay hard disk enclosure. Was thinking of getting a multi bay NAS but that's overkill too. Was thinking there must be dedicated hard disk holders that can be used to hold hard disks.

Until this afternoon, when I went to a Japanese $2 store.

For $2, I got this :)

A Jog at Lower Peirce Reservoir

Went jogging last night at Lower Peirce Reservoir. Always wanted to go and check out the place for a while. So drove there and parked at the car park near to the entrance at Upper Thomson Road.

Lower Peirce Reservoir Singapore Entrance

I don't think it is much of a jogging place as the actual jogging track is quite short (a flat short track around the reservoir) and if you really want to run more, you need to jog into the man made trail that is newly opened (known as Lower Peirce Trail).

Lower Peirce Reservoir Trail

The trail cuts into the "forest" alongside the reservoir and is made of wooden steps with platform stops at certain points (very nicely done like Changi Broadwalk). I stopped halfway as I realized I am getting deeper into the "forest" and I am scared of BEES (grin). Saw HUGE ants and squirrels and monkeys too. Had this vision of hornet bees chasing after me and decided that nature running is not my cup of tea :)

Anyway, as I walked back, I found a very nice corner of the reservoir and I just sat there just listening to the iPhone and think. Very relaxing place. Windy and nice. Romantic to a certain extent.

And, of course, as usual, I was taking photos of the place (using iPhone Camera) as well as tried to do some twitter (using TwitPict and RoadTweets and TweetDock) at the place :)

And definitely, upload my very short run using RunKeeper to the web site, runkeeper.com

Photos of Kindle 2 and Sony Reader

A colleague from the States bought over her Kindle 2 so I finally get to lay my hands on the Kindle 2 (yes yes, late, slow.. i know...)

Here are some photos. Lighting conditions were awful unfortunately.

Dual Monitors Set Up in Mac Mini

With the Monoprice MiniDisplay Port to DVI Adapter that I bought from Monoprice, I am now finally able to do dual display with my Mac Mini.

I already have a Dell 2408WFP LCD Monitor and recently picked up a Samsung 2443BW LCD monitor. So I have two 24" monitors to hook up with my Mac Mini. There are lots of talk and chatter in the internet about the Mac Mini and its ability now to power dual monitors.. so I just have to try to see if I can get it working too (that's the geek in me...). There is a very good YouTube video on this that you can watch.

The Mac Mini comes with 2 display output: Mini-DVI port and Mini DisplayPort output. Out of the box, the Mac Mini already comes with a Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter. Hence I purchased a Mini Display Port to DVI from Monoprice which is WAY WAY WAY cheaper than Apple Store. I love Monoprice. Do you ? :)

So here's a picture of the connections at the back of Mac Mini. One adaptor out of Mini DVI and one out of Mini Display port. Both adaptors are then linked to the monitors via normal DVI cables.

In Snow Leopard Mac OS, I went to System Preferences and then display screen set up and found that immediately I can now choose mirror display or extended display.

No reboot, no setup issues, no worries. It just works. Typical Mac :)

And so.......

Extended Display:

(And I can even choose different wall papers for different monitors...!)

But..... the next challenge is to also enable dual display in VM Fusion. I am currently running VM Fusion 3 with Windows XP. I need Windows XP to run MT4 software.

At first, I could not get it to work as I keep seeing only 1 screen in VM Fusion. The other screen is blank. I could not move any windows from the left screen to the right screen.

I google for help and found this: View->Use All Displays in Full Screen in VM Fusion. So I go to VIEW (at the top of the screen in VM Fusion) and saw the setting "Use All Displays in Full Screen". Enabling it and behold:

Lovely !! Hope you like the photos :)

Monoprice MiniDisplay Port to DVI Adapter

My beloved colleague travelled to the United States recently so I had him bring back a ton of cables from Monoprice.

Including this Monoprice MiniDisplay Port to DVI Adapter cable.

Will share how I use this to do dual display in Mac Mini in another posting but here's some photos of the cable.

I love Monoprice products. I will move to USA just to be close to Monoprice but then there are only so many Monoprice cables you can buy ! :) :)

Monoprice iPhone Backup Battery Pack

Excellent product that I got recently. To charge up the iPhone when it is running out of battery and you are not near an electrical point. I got one from ebay (hong kong) but it is not as good as this one from Monoprice. In less than 2 hours, it fully charged up the iPhone.
